Dr William (Bill) Sands, General Practitioner

Dr Sands has worked as a GP in Fremantle since 1981, bringing more than 30 years of professional experience to the practice. Holding a fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a diploma of child health and a diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology, Dr Sands is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Interested in all aspects of family medicine, Dr Sands has a particular passion for chronic complex disease management. He is also interested in developing local primary care and prefers not to refer patients for terminations.

Dr Ann-Sofi Pokrant, General Practitioner

An experienced GP, Dr Pokrant’s special interests lie in women’s health and family medicine, and she’s skilled in inserting Mirena and Implanon contraceptive devices. Dr Pokrant has a long association with the Fremantle community and is also involved in undergraduate teaching at the medical centre. She also speaks Swedish.

Dr Catherine Brooker, General Practitioner

Dr Brooker is an experienced GP and has extra Qualifications in women’s health and Paediatrics. She is skilled at inserting Mirena and Implanon contraceptive devices and has an interest in the health care of Aboriginal People and holds a fellowship with the Royal Australian College of GP’s.

Dr Ian McWhirter, General Practitioner

Dr McWhirter graduated from UWA in 2004 and lives in the Fremantle area. He has worked in General Practice since 2010 and has been at the Canning Medical Centre since 2013.

He holds a Fellowship with the Royal College of General Practitioners and a Diploma in Child Health.

Dr McWhirter enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He is experienced in Skin Checks and inserting Implanon. Dr McWhirter is interested in Aged Care; Aboriginal Health; Chronic Disease; Hyperbaric, Sports Medicine and Work Medicals.

Dr Tom Johnston, General Practitioner

Dr Tom Johnston has been in General Practice for 25 years. He has worked in Germany, the UK and more recently in Canberra.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a former conjoint lecturer with the University of Western Sydney Medical School.

He holds a certificate in Primary Skin Cancer Medicine and also has a keen interest in Adolescent Mental Health, Travel Medicine and Chronic Pain Management.

Dr Anita Calalesina, General Practitioner

She has skills in Chronic Disease, Aged Care, Women’s Health, Paediatrics and all aspects of Family Medicine. She has extra qualifications in Travel Medicine and Tropical Diseases and holds a fellowship with Royal Australian College of GP’s.

Dr Calalesina is available Monday to Thursday. She also speaks Italian.

Dr Jenny Donnelly, General Practitioner

Jenny graduated from UWA with honours in 2003 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She has worked for a number of years as a medical registrar in both Fremantle and Rockingham hospitals gaining a wide range of experience. Since finding General Practice Jenny has done further studies in child health completing her Diploma in Child Health from Westmead in Sydney.

Jenny enjoys all aspects of General Practice with particular interests in prevention and management of chronic disease, child health and aged care.

Dr Elyn Gaebler, General Practitioner

Dr John Varona, General Practitioner

Dr Varona graduated from UQ in 2010. He has worked as a medical practitioner since 2011. After working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Dr Varona chose to specialise in general practice. He has recently joined the Canning Medical Centre after moving to Western Australia.

He holds a Fellowship with the Royal College of General Practitioners

He is interested in all aspects of family medicine but has a special interest in minor procedures. He is experienced in lmplanon insertions.

He is available 4 days a week; Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Fri. and is happy to see new patients
